Canmore Camera Club 2010 Summer-Fall Field Trips
The Canmore Camera Club has a history of providing unique field trips in the Bow Valley and surroundings, and this year will be no exception. We offer a wide range of trips which are entertaining, informative and enjoyable. Trips require differing levels of physical fitness, so if you are unsure of the suitability of the trip for you, please contact the trip leader to ask.
Topics this summer include wildlife, flowers, landscapes, panoramas and a variety of more conventioanl photographic opportunities that will allow you to improve your shooting skills
The trips below have been chosen from a dozen potential trips (listed at the bottom of this page) ranked by members of the club and interested members of the public. Note that trips are available to both members of the club and the public, provided that certain conditions are met (signing of a waiver form, and site-specific number limits being the most important). If you have not already signed a waiver form, they will be supplied at the beginning of the trips.
Kananaskis Wildlife Trip
This trip will offer the possibility to see Osprey, Bald Eagle, Columbian Ground Squirrel, Mule Deer, Elk, Grizzly Bear and possibly others as well. Wildlife are unpredictable, so it must be remembered that we may have exceptionally good luck, or we may not see much of anything on any given day. The key is to be patient and wait for the animals!
The trip is scheduled to leave Canmore from the parking lot behind the Public Library by 8:30 am, and will spend the morning in the Kananaskis with the optionof extending the trip through the afternoon.
Status: On hold. Alberta Conservation Officers are currently enforcing their policy of "do not disturb the animals" and "do not stop unless it is an emergency" in the Kananaskis area. This makes conducting a field trip for viewing and photographing wildlife vitrualy impossible. The situation is being monitored and if it changes for the better, the trip will be run in the Kananaskis. Alternatively, it may be scheduled for Banff National Park, time-permitting.

Engadine Lodge and Karst Springs Trip
This trip will offer a short visit to the meadows where moose commonly visit, followed by a trip to nearby Karst Springs. The trip will offer an opportunity to photograph the water features at Karst Springs, and potentially the moose near Engadine Lodge.
The trip is scheduled to leave Canmore from the parking lot behind the Public Library by 8:30 am, and will go through the afternoon.
Status: On hold. The trips may be run later in the fall depending on the weather, and the number of interested particpants.

Bow River Panorama Trip
This trip will offer an introduction to taking panoramas along the Bow River in Canmore. Topics covered will include camera setup for identifying the lens nodal point; determining the amount of overlap between shots; bracketing exposures for better detail; tripod adjustment and filter use for better skies. We will also examine the more complex method of shooting panoramas versus the "quick and easy" method. It is strongly recommended that participants have a tripod and cable release, but this is not required.
The trip is scheduled to leave from the parking lot behind the public Library at 9:00 am, and will last roiughly until noon. Note that because of access to the river walkway, it is recommended that participants car-pool.
Status: Trip will be held unless it is raining

Cascade Gardens and Vermillion Lakes
This trip offers a visit to the wildflower and rock garden at the Administration Building at Banff National Park, and a chance to shoot the scenery at the Vermillion Lakes just outside of Banff. The Vermillion Lakes offer an iconic view of Mount Rundle, as well as the possibility to shoot the resident Bald Eagles if they are near their nest. The flowers at Cascade Gardens will offer a chance to brush up on your macro skills and possibly to practice the generation of abstract images.
Should the gardens be beyond their prime, we will go to either Bow Falls or Bankhead instead.
The trip is scheduled to leave Canmore from the parking lot behind the PublicLibrary at 1:00 pm, and may last until just before the dinner hour, depending on how quickly the participants proceed.
Status: The trip will be held unless it is raining
